Donald Patz, particularly noted for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with his past experience at Patz & Hall, has spent the last three decades in Sonoma County, and the Russian River valley grape growers have given him access to some of the top vineyard sites in the valley. Utilizing these vineyard sites he and his team are crafting compelling Chardonnays and delicately perfumed Pinot Noirs.

With Maritana, Donald decided to focus entirely on the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County as the source for his new winery where he’s creating classic Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs.

A collaboration with François Villard yielded a new wine project that became Terminim, producing high quality Rhône varietals like Marsanne, Rousanne and Syrah.

Secret Door Winery was founded by Donald and his wife, Jung Min Lee, whose preference was for Bordeaux and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. She eventually learning to love Pinot Noir, too, but Donald had promised her that if she would move to California from Virginia to be with him he would – someday – make a Cabernet Sauvignon wine for her. So they have searched out their favorite parts of the Napa Valley with an eye to work with dedicated grape-growers prepared to produce Cabernet Sauvignon grapes of the highest quality. Promise kept.
